The work, and the person behind it.
I'm Bill Barker. With Regard is my consulting practice—websites, search visibility, and the systems that hold a small business together. You work with me directly, from the first conversation through the work itself.
Bill Barker · Founder
I kept seeing the same thing: businesses with real potential, stuck with a digital presence that wasn't working.
I've spent more than a decade in hands-on technical work. Most recently that was three years at a Kansas City marketing agency, where my work spanned SEO and web development for hundreds of businesses across nearly every industry. I built and rebuilt sites on every major platform, ran search strategy for dozens of clients at a time, configured CRMs, set up analytics and tracking, and built automations that teams still use. I enjoy getting to work with complex systems, where strategy and execution have to move together, and the right solution has to be found, not picked off a shelf.
I also know what it's like to be on your side of the table. My wife and I have run an online shop together since 2021, so I've done the sourcing, fulfillment, bookkeeping, and late-night website updates as the owner, not the vendor. When I say I'll treat your business with care, that's where it comes from.
With Regard is how I do this work on my own terms: full attention, honest recommendations, and a direct line to the person doing the work.
The work I do, and where I'll point you elsewhere.
With Regard is one person by design. No handoffs, no junior substitutions, and a straight answer about where I'm the right person for the job.
I do this work directly
- Websites—design, build, migration, performance, and accessibility
- Search visibility: technical SEO, content structure, and answer-engine readiness
- Google Business Profile and listing cleanup
- CRM setup, workflow automation, and analytics
- Custom tools inside your existing stack—dashboards, data pipelines, and integrations between systems that do not talk to each other
- Operational reviews, advisory sessions, and training
The person who hears the problem is the person who does the work. Explore the full range under services.
Paid advertising is newer ground for me as a service. The search, content, and site work that ads depend on isn't—so if you're weighing them, I'm glad to think through where they'd fit, what they'd need to work, and whether they're the right lever right now.
Where I'd point you to someone else
- Logo and brand identity design
- Bring yours, or I'll point you to someone who does it well. I'll build around it either way.
- Software as your product
- If the software is the business—user accounts and roles, a roadmap, continuous feature work, uptime you're selling—that wants a product team, not one person. Custom functionality inside your own stack is a different thing, and it's work I do.
What you can count on
Not adjectives—things you should be able to watch happen.
You get the reasoning, not just the recommendation
Every recommendation arrives with why it's the recommendation, what it assumes, and what would change it. If you disagree, you'll have enough to say so.
I tell you when something isn't worth doing
Including when it would have been my work. "Not yet" and "this is fine as it is" are real answers, and you'll hear them.
You keep everything
Logins, accounts, code, and documentation are yours and handed over as a matter of course. Nothing is held to keep you here.
Scope is written down before work starts
What's included, what isn't, and what it costs—agreed in writing first. If something turns out bigger than expected, you hear it when I find out, not at invoicing.
Whether this is a good match
This is probably a good fit if
- You want to work directly with the person doing the work, not an account manager relaying messages.
- You want to own your website, data, and accounts outright.
- You'd rather hear an honest "this isn't worth doing yet" than be sold the bigger package.
- Your business is owner-led and small enough that you are close to how the work happens.
Probably not a fit if
- You need a full team running large ad budgets or daily social content.
- You want guaranteed rankings or overnight results—no honest practice can promise those.
- You want to hand everything off without ever discussing how your business works.
- You need someone available at all hours. I do focused work for a small number of clients at a time.
Not sure which side you're on? That's a reasonable thing to ask about. If it isn't a fit, I'd rather say so early—see how I measure and report on work for what a real engagement looks like.
